Meet Ruth...
A visionary leader, founder and owner of the Center for Yoga, Ruth Fisk began studying Iyengar Yoga in 1980 and has been teaching for 37 years. She remains spirited and passionate in her delivery of this ancient art and science and is dedicated to the teaching of Yoga in a traditional and kind way with abundant humor and self-reflection. Ruth is a Level II Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher authorized to teach BKS Iyengar's method. Her spiritual practice is guided by Jehangir Palkhivala (who grew up with Mr. Iyengar) and she makes yearly visits to India to study. Twenty-five years ago Ruth Fisk founded the Center for Yoga Movement and Massage, the first Yoga center in the greater Lansing area. Her teaching and the continual expansion the Center for Yoga over the years has been instrumental to growing the community of students and teachers and has facilitated numerous teachers to open Yoga studios that are operating today in greater Lansing and Mid-Michigan. Generous by nature, Ruth provides an environment at the Center that is safe and caring with the intention to help students find the right place and right teacher to grow and transform through Yoga. Ruth also mentors teachers in their quest to become knowledgeable in the teaching of Yoga and sharing of Yoga with their students. To read about Ruth's classes follow this link: center4yoga.com/ruth
Everyone comes to Yoga for their own reasons; Ruth's was a dance injury. The discovery of Iyengar Yoga turned into a life long journey of self-discovery and a career filled with giving and heart centered work. Ruth has dedicated her life to studying and teaching Iyengar Yoga. In her 37 years of practicing and teaching and of mentoring students to become teachers, she emphasizes the faithful, methodical and integrative communication of her direct study with the Iyengar family and her spiritual studies with Jehangir Palkhivala. Ruth travels to India each year for study, attends Iyengar conventions, attends online classes with Abhijata Iyengar, hosts retreats and offers a Yoga study program for emerging teachers. Teaching Yoga for Ruth brings such happiness to be able to give back one fraction of the priceless gift her teachers have shared. Along with being an experienced teacher Certified in the tradition of BKS Iyengar, she is also an E-RYT 500, YACEP with Yoga Alliance and the founder of the Anandalay for Yoga Study Program. This one-year program is offered to assist students in deepening their understanding of Yoga overall.
